A workshop hall was rented to create the space for training.

We were back on site in March 2022.

With our financial support, we were initially able to install a power connection for the rented property. In March, we installed the entire sub-distribution board in the hall (lighting and high-voltage current, lighting) and the outdoor area, which had been further refurbished in the meantime. With our help, we were also able to install a double-leaf door in the hall.  It is now possible to drive vehicles into the hall. Our luggage also included work/safety shoes and work clothing for the trainees. The trainees have already actively supported us in the activities described above.  

We also brought small machines and tools with us from Germany in spring 2022 and on our second trip in August of that year. This enabled us to start a sound practical training programme. 

We were also able to support the young people with a daily hot meal. With our financial help, meals are now cooked on the workshop premises. Daniel and Charles have employed a cook on a permanent basis. She cooks for everyone so that the young people get a hot meal at least once a day.

It is essential that the training includes a significant level of care for the young people by the trainers. In Africa, it is natural and necessary for meals to be stored together during the training day. Without this the young people would have no opportunity to reach how to provide them.  They experience a regular rhythm of life that motivates them. 

Since the income from running the workshop remains quite irregular, we provide financial support to ensure that food can be procured consistently.

Some of the homeless trainees spend the night in vehicles parked on the premises or set up temporary sleeping areas in the workshop. We would like to change this situation in the future and hope to find better solutions to address this problem.

On this basis, the first one-year training course took place from 1 April 2021 - 31 March 2022. Seven of the eight young people completed their training with an examination before a state authority. All seven have now found a permanent job.
